This one’s for the weird girls.

A little history: weird originally comes from the Old English wyrd, meaning fate or destiny. Shakespeare called the witches in Macbeth the “Weird Sisters”—but when the play appeared in the 1623 First Folio, they were printed as the “Weyward Sisters,” possibly because the increasingly uncommon weird had been confused with wayward.

Over time, those strange and supernatural witches helped weird take on the meaning we know today.

So when I put “Black Magic for Wayward Witches” on the cover, it felt especially fitting.

Inspired by vintage books of magic, she’s black with soft maroon details, moon phases, pentagrams, tiny bats, and a cat + frog on the back.
